Iodine and ammonium salts sublime, their vapours then turn back into solids when cooled down. To see the sublimation, heat some iodine in a china dish and place a funnel upside down above the vapours (violet). The heated vapours become solid on contact with the funnel wall.

Heating curve illustrates what?

When a substance is heated, a heating curve shows the changes in temperature as well as the physical state of the substance. A heating curve can chart the temperature versus the time elapsed as the changes take place.

How does the pressure and temperature each air mass cause changes?

Temperature is really just the amount of kinetic energy in the molecules of a substance. If you add more energy by heating the substance then the molecules dash about faster and faster. This increases the pressure if the substance is constrained, like gas in a jar or in a bomb.

sublimate

Temperature is the what of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in a substance?

The average energy is increased by heating.

How can temperature be increased without heating?

It is possible to add heat to a substance without changing its temperature. That happens during melting and boiling. However, I cannot think of a case in which the temperature of a substance increases without heat being added to it, either by radiation, conduction or convection.

What do the terms 'boiling' and 'simmering' mean?

Boiling is heating any liquid substance over its boiling point, till it changes its state.. Simmering is continuously heating any liquid substance to keep it hot..

How sweating helps maintain normal body temperature?

The watery fluids in the human body have a high specific heat capacity. This is one of the reasons why the temperature of the body changes slowly when the temperature of the surroundings changes slowly when the temperature of the surroundings changes. The specific heat capacity of a substance is the energy transferred by heating needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of the substance through 1 degrees.
