Direct Democracy is a political system where the citizens participate in the decision making rather than relying on intermediaries or representatives. In other words, a government ruled by the people instead of being run by a government elect or other means.
In an ideal world, a democracy is operated by having qualified citizens vote on issues that effect the community. This is called "ideal" because only within a small group of people can a democracy work. In a large population, a democracy is difficult to manage and becomes "mob rule". Despite what is said about the Greek city-states, they were not ideal democracies, but they came as close as practicality allowed.
