Kilkenny is an Irish Red Ale from Ireland. An ale is an aromatic brew made from malt and or malt and cereal (rice etc.) Ales are usually fuller and less crisp than a pilsner. Ales are top-fermented brews because the ale is fermented at a higher temperature that beer and the yeast rises to the top. The term red ale comes from the reddish/blush hue that it possesses The Kilkenny brewery is owned by the famous Guinness and the brew is mainly just sold in Ireland. The Kilkenny that is sold in Ireland has a buttery, candied nut, toasty flavor. Outside of Ireland the brew that is sold is stronger, and nuttier.

Kilkenny comes from the Irish Cill Channigh, which means the church of Canice. Kilkenny is associated with St. Canice.
While many towns in Ireland begin with a 'K', Kilkenny is the only city which does.
