This is one of those, how long is a piece of string questions! However, it is estimated that there are over 400 different breeds of dog in the world, but this doesn't take into account the various mixed breed dogs that are rapidly being bread and given a breed name.

Mixed Breed dogs make up a huge percentage of the dogs in the world, so it is really impossible to put a single figure on it, due to the amount of new breeds being introduced all the time.

The Chihuahua is the smallest dog in the world and stands at just between six and eight inches tall and weighs between six and nine pounds. The Old English Mastiff is not only the largest dog in the world, but he is also holds the record for being the biggest and heaviest dog in the world! The Old English Mastiff can weigh an incredible 343 pounds! An Old English Mastiff dog called Zorba held the record for the world's largest dog. Although the Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane can beat the Mastiff in height, they cannot beat him in being the heaviest dog, so the Mastiff still wins, paws down!

Working

Depending what type of spaniel you have, either show or working (generally relating to cocker spaniels), depends what they were bred for. If you had a show cocker spaniel, this would be for showing, they have good posture and many other things, but they can be prone to blindness, deafness and ear infections. However, the working cocker spaniels, are more for hunting, where the pheasant is shot, and the spaniel goes to pick it up and retrieve it. They also work out in the fields, and make excellent family dogs.
