Biblical requirements for priesthood relate only to the Old Testament, and are not specified in the New, but bishops were required to be "the husband of one wife". It is not clear if this meant one wife rather than more than one, or not a widowed, remarried man, or not a celibate (presumably younger) man. At the outset of Christianity, the distinction between priests and laity as currently understood did not really exist. Nowadays, canon law (Canon 1024) stipulates that a candidate for the priesthood must be a baptised male. The late Pope John Paul 2 attempted to stop all discussion of this, but the issue of OW (Ordination of Women) is still contentious for some.

There were a number of qualifications in The Bible that one had to meet to become a high priest. Some of the qualifications include being sinless, came from the tribe of Levi and one who had compassion among others.

How do you pronounce melchizedek priesthood?

The word "melchizedek" is pronounced "mel-KIZ-ed-ick" or "mel-KIZ-ed-eck" with the emphasis on the second syllable (KIZ). The word "priesthood" is pronounced "PRE-stood".
