it should takeboth a 22 cal. long rifle and a 22 magnum cyl.
About $150 if its in GREAT condition and has both the cylinders .22 and .22 magnum.
Generally the answer is no this is not a normal maintence item the timing system on a 22 R lasts for many miles well over 200,000 however....If you have the front of the engine dis-assembled and upon inspection find loose and worn parts definitely replace the chain and any wear blocks ,tentioners or gears associated with the chain.

Smith & Wesson did not make the Double-Nine. High Standard did, and it was available with two cylinders. One was a .22LR cylinder the other was chambered in .22 Magnum. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Value will depend upon condition and whether you have both the .22 long rifle and the .22 Magnum RF cylinders. It will fall between $50 for fair condition and just under $200. Subtract $35 if one of the cylinders is missing. Add $35-45 for box and papers.
50-500 depending on EXACTLY what you have, condition, box, papers, etc..
