Advertisements are efforts to communicate with the users of a product or service. According to the Advertising Association of the UK, advertisements are messages that are paid for by those who send them and intended to inform or influence people who receive them.

Description: Advertising is everywhere, even if people aren't aware of it. Advertising nowadays uses a variety of media to spread its message. It does so through television, print media (newspapers, magazines, journals, etc. ), radio, press, internet, direct sales, hoardings, mailers, contests, sponsorships, posters, clothes, events, colours, sounds, visuals, and even people (endorsements).

The typical advertising industry consists of agencies that create advertisements, media that carries the ads, and a number of people like copy editors, visualizers, brand managers, researchers, creative heads, and designers who take it all the way to the consumer. A company hires an advertising agency when it needs to advertise itself and/or its products. The company provides the agency with information about the brand, its imagery, the ideals and values behind it, the target segments, etc. Based on the concepts and ideas, agencies create visuals, text, layouts, and themes to communicate with users. Ads are aired in accordance with bookings made by the agency's media buying unit, following approval from the client.

I don't agree with you. advertising is an important part of free and competitive market. Sometimes it seems marketing is just wastage of resources but most of the time it is how newly invented products and services come in market. Without advertising how would you know iPod or IPad or IPhone.

Free classified advertising helps recycling of used items. e.g. the toaster you don't want anymore can be advertisd on or offline for someone who need a toaster.
