Have you cleaned out the intake? The carbon built up in there may cause it to stall. (i.e. the cylinder isn't getting any fuel even though the carb is)
If that doesn't work, it sounds like your valves are stuck open or closed; either way, it will start but won't run like that.

Try cleaning or changing the air filter...........also check for blockage in fuel line or change the fuel filter if it has one.

NO! It should not be running.
The battery light comes on when the alternator is not charging. Changing the battery did nothing. Either put a gauge on the battery to see if it is charging, or while running, disconnet the positive cable from the battery. If the car dies that means the alternator is not charging. Most parts stores will check it for free. Oriely's , Autozone, etc.
If its running well leave it alone, but its one of the things that must be looked if its running rough.
Try cleaning out the walls behind the throttle plate and cleaning out the injectors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Or you can try changing out the MAP sensor, or IAC (Idle Air Control Sensor)
Everything I have read says that the vehicle will start and then die. Holding the accelerator down a tiny bit will keep it running. After the engine warms a bit, it will go back to normal idle. Needs cleaning or changing.
I had this very same problem with my Chevrolet Silverado. The only thing that will cure this problem is replacing all your Oxygen Sensors and running premium fuel.
You need to update your video card, and try cleaning your computer.
It starts running bad and changing the fuel fixes it.
