that would have to be your IAT or intake air temperature sensor, it is normally located just after the air cleaner on the tube leading to the throttle body.
Most likely you have a grounding problem in the left tail-light. See if the wire is disconnected, broken or if the grond wire connection is corroded where it connects to the body.
The throttle body is on the top of the engine. It is where the hose from the air filter box connects to.
I had the same problem with my 98 ranger you need a a special tool to remove the brackets that hold it in place It is not an easy task

The ENGINE air filter is located in the engine compartment , near the front , on the passenger side , inside the round shaped plastic air filter housing ( it connects to the big rubber engine air intake tube that goes to the engine throttle body ) P.S. it doesn't have a cabin air filter
