The brake booster is leaking vacuum pressure. If you look under the hood its black and round and located behind the brake fluid reservoir
Usually it can be a high pitched sound that alerts you that your brake pad are deteriorating and soon to be into you rotors.
Just know that if that is happening you are in serious trouble as it means that your brakes are leaking. In MLs the brakes use air pressure so if there is a hissing sound it means air is leaking thus your brakes could possibly fail. The best solution is to go to a registered Mercedes Benz garage so they can fix the problem. Alternatively if you dont have the money you could pretend that there is no noise and eventually you brakes will fail and you'll be in an accident i.e. GET YOU BRAKES FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
brake booster could be bad the seal around the rod that hooks to the brake pedal is leaking
check power booster, either vacuum leak or faulty booster. The first answer assumes the leak is continuous while the pedal is being pressed --that being said all vehicles have an air leaking sound (woosh) when the brake pedal is first pressed but does not continue when the pedal stops going down
The whistling sound made by your car could be caused from brake dust. Another reason may be from a bad wheel bearing that needs to be replaced.
The power brakes on most vehicles operate on the engine vacuum. If there is a leak or problems with the power brakes it can make a hissing sound. But then, sometimes power brakes do that when they're working properly. It could be from either a hole in the diaphragm of the brake booster or normal operation. If the sound is new, and was not there before, and your brake pedal is going to the floor, then you should have the power booster replaced.
This can be a normal situation or mechanical problem. Some brakes had natural squeal regardless of pad life or lubricant used. However many brake systems have squealers which make a sound alerting the pad life is at replacement stage.
If a 2000 Honda Accord is making a howling noise when the brakes are pressed the rotor may be the issue. When a brake rotor becomes warped the wheel will not stop smoothly, and in turn create several different noises.
Get your brakes tested. I do not know what a ticking sound means.
It is probably the vacuum booster. That's what gives you your "power" brakes.
It means it is time to have your brakes checked.
Yes.... the brakes will make a "metallic" sound when the brakes are getting worn.
