All that would be left would be a short in the wiring to the alternator.

i had the same problem! replaced my alternator 3 times! battery light kept coming on, finally took it to an alternator specialist, come to find out my wireing was connected wrong, and the connector was bad, car wasn't reading the alternator correctly causing the alternator to shut down. Got it fixed for roughly 350 dollars but no problems since, suggest brand new alternator not a rebuilt one!

Don't believe a word AutoZone tells you. My battery died so I went there and they tested my battery and alternator and told me it was the battery. So I bought a new battery and 2 days later, dead again. Went back and they tested again and THIS time, it was the alternator. I went nuts on them and ended up getting both my battery AND alternator for free for their mistake that left me stranded at 12am.

You have a short - it's hard to be more exact than that, but if you disconnect the battery and charge it outside of the car and it stays charged, you have a short. If it does not stay charged, you need a new battery.

You could have killed some or all the cells in the battery. You need to replace both battery and alternator at the same time. I had the same problem. After I replaced both I've had no more problems. Take battery and alternator to auto Zone or Advanced Auto so they can test them. Buy new battery and alternator if needed. Fly wheel (Not sure what it is really called) where starter goes could be bad causing starters to wear out.

check battery cable connection to see if loose.could also be a drain on battery,check to be sure all accessories were turned off overnight. Just a few days ago my caddy would not start. the battery checked out ok, but the alternator was bad. diodes were bad causing an "open loop" in electrical circuit which drained battery. To check alternator, first fullycharge battery, take to local parts store (autozone will check it for free)this can be done with alternator on running engine. Good luck!
