However, biplanes (and triplanes and more!) were part of aeronautic history. Folk eventually got better at design. And understanding of what was happening.

This is known as a biplane, which has one set of wings above the other. This was done to provide more lift, since one set was not enough. Modern planes now have wings of the needed shape, side, and surface texture to maintain flight with only one set, but some biplanes are still flown for the fun of it.
