If it's like my 2001, you need to take out the dash, because they put ty-raps on EVERYTHING and you need to also thread the new cable through, almost an impossibility, otherwise.

The antenna screws into the mount on the roof
To replace the antenna on a Ford Focus remove the antenna from the base using a screwdriver. Remove the lighting assembly hose with a small key. Remove the plug in wires and the plastic housing. Put the new antenna base in place than screw in the new antenna.
how can i change the antenna base on ford focus its broken Remove the maplight cover and bulb housing. There is a single screw that secures the antenna base.
The base of the antenna is about $10, Ford Part # 18813 The Antenna mast is about $35, Ford Part # 18A886
The size of the dish isn't as important as the length of the antenna. The antenna is INSIDE the little can at the focus of the dish. The length of the antenna is tuned to the wavelength of the frequency being received.

twist the black base and use a 5 point screwdriver to hold the screw while you put the new one on

Why don't you get a magnetic-based antenna.
Parallel rays, such as those from a very distance source, are focussed by a parabolic antenna so that they all meet at the focus of the parabola. This results in a stronger signal.
> http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/antenna.htm < OR; If you're just looking to replace the antenna rod itself - It is just screwed into the base. I have a 02 wagon, and have taken it off a couple of times. You might have to tighten it a bit first to break the seal. then grap it good an unscrew it. It seems to stick, but comes off. Good luck
You will need to remove the overhead lights inside the car to do it. Pop out the lights with a flat head screw driver and disconnect the chords. Then look up and you will see a screw holding the base of the antenna to the hood. (Make sure you've unscrewed the antenna from the base though). Unscrew that and it should pop right off. A more detailed answer can be found at the below website. It's for a Focus but it's the same procedure I used. http://myfordfocus.com/how-to/antenna.htm
