Tracing the true source of the anti-freeze leak is sometimes rather difficult. That's because the leaking fluid is traveling from the moment it leaves through the source of the leak until it either evaporates or hits the ground.
You're going to have to do a very very close inspection of the engine compartment and try and identify the specific spot the leak *starts*.
With that information, folks will be better able to provide feedback on how to go about fixing the problem.
Get a strong flashlight and start poking around the engine...
You will have antifreeze leaking out and dripping on the ground.
look on the ground and follow it straight up to the engine
You may have blown a head gasket, check you oil to see if the antifreeze is leaking into there.
If losing anti freeze but not visible leaking typically means bad head gasket. Antifreeze is leaking into combustion cylinder and therefore evaporating and going out exhaust pipe as steam.
antifreeze smell inside car means that there is antifreeze leak somewhere. first check for wet spots under car when parked after running.if anti freeze is leaking from engine it will pool on the ground next check to see if heater core is leaking. that is usually the problem. if heater core is leaking, replace it
A small radiator leak can cause antifreeze to leak on your 1998 Chevy Lumina when there are not any spots on the ground. A pinhole in a hose can also cause this.
It is possible that the antifreeze is coming from a bad water pump. Clean the engine off. Watch it to see where the antifreeze is leaking from, as it could be a hose instead of the pump.
If it is a vortec engine, it is probably the lower intake manifold gasket. In most cases you can smell it when the engine is hot.
1996 and up Taurus cars have a problem with cracking on the bottom of the reservoir. I have replaced the tank on all three of my familys Tauruses because two had hairline cracks that would leave antifreeze on the ground near the reservoir.
sounds like it is leaking from either the heater core or the water pump or just the inlet or outlet hose that runs into the heater core.
Normal it means your leaking antifreeze from somewhere. Check your levels and look on the ground, some times the vent system can pull in the smell. Check the hoses. Also it can be a leak in the heater core. If so it can be exspensive to replace, mostly because the whole dash normally needs to come out to get to it.
if you can smell antifreeze, you have an antifreeze leak somewhere. you need to clean engine then look for coolant . it will generally pool on ground under vehicle unless it is leaking onto engine and burning off. note that the coolant will run so you may have to trace back to the actual leak. check all coolant fittings, such as hoses and check area round water pump.
