This Tesla CD Turbine is based on the Tesla turbine, which was invented by Nikola Tesla in the early 1900's. Tesla's pumps and motors were unique in that they only used discs, and took advantage of the boundary layer effect. His smallest designs were over 100 horsepower. It is referred to as a bladeless turbine because it uses the boundary layer effect and not a fluid impinging upon the blades as in a conventional turbine. The Tesla turbine is also known as the boundary layer turbine, cohesion-type turbine, and Prandtl layer turbine (after Ludwig Prandtl). One of Tesla's desire for implementation of this turbine was for geothermal power, which was described in "Our Future Motive Power".

Tesla wrote 'This turbine is an efficient self-starting prime mover which may be operated as a steam or mixed fluid turbine at will, without changes in construction and is on this account very convenient. Minor departures from the turbine, as may be dictated by the circumstances in each case, will obviously suggest themselves but if it is carried out on these general lines it will be found highly profitable to the owners of the steam plant while permitting the use of their old installation. However, the best economic results in the development of power from steam by the Tesla turbine will be obtained in plants especially adapted for the purpose.

What was tesla's AC system?

Tesla pointed out the inefficiency of Edison's direct current electrical powerhouses that have been build up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current, because to him all energies were cyclic. Tesla introduced his motors and electrical systems in a classic paper, "A New System of Alternating Current Motors and Transformers" which he delivered before the American Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1888. One of the most impressed was the industrialist and inventor George Westinghouse. One day he visited Tesla's laboratory aTesla Statuend was amazed at what he saw. Tesla had constructed a model polyphase system consisting of an alternating current dynamo, step-up and step-down transformers and A.C. motor at the other end. The perfect partnership between Tesla and Westinghouse for the nationwide use of electricity in America had begun. In 1882 Tesla conceives of AC induction motor and in 1883 Tesla constructs the first polyphase AC motor.

Why is Nicola Tesla important to electricians today?

He was that patented the electrical system used to light up houses and buildings around the world.

Who invent AC?

Willis Haviland Carrier is wrong he invented the air conditioner AC is an electrical current invented by Nikola Tesla. Thomas Edison who invented DC, used AC to make an electrical pad, killed cats and dogs to ruin Tesla because he wanted to prove it was dangerous, but DC is more dangerous.

When was the Tesla turbine invented?

On his 50th birthday in 1906, Tesla demonstrated his 200 hp (150 kW) 16,000 rpm bladeless turbine. During 1910 1911 at the Waterside Power Station in New York, several of his bladeless turbine engines were tested at 100 5000 hp. It was patented by Nikola Tesla in 1913.

What did Nikola Tesla tools use?

A whole branch of medicine was founded on the healing effects of certain Tesla coil frequencies. Tesla understood the therapeutic value of high-frequency vibrations. He never patented in the area but did announce his findings to the medical community, and a number of devices were patented and marketed by others.

How could Nikola Tesla light up light bulbs while holding them and having no electrical wires attached?

Nikola Tesla used a high-frequency electromagnetic field to transmit electricity wirelessly, known as Tesla coils. When he held a light bulb near the coil, the electromagnetic field induced a current in the bulb, causing it to light up without the need for direct electrical connections.
