Pelton wheel could be used to lift water from a lower source (lake or something) to pour into a high place. Another use, it could be used to dig into the earth, the wheel have the shape of a milling cutter, it can open channels in the ground or something. It could also be used to measure the speed of a fluid, if connected to a dynamo meter, the speed of flow could be read via voltage. These are some applications.

What is a steam turbine?

It is an engine.A steam turbine is a heat engine that uses the expansion of steam passing through stationary nozzles and blades on a shaft to turn the shaft. The steam can move through the turbine axially (one end of shaft to the other end), radially (shaft to outer casing), or tangentially (around the outer edges of the turbine wheel). In an impulse turbine, the steam is expanded in nozzles and pushes the blades. In a reaction turbine the steam is expanded in the nozzles AND in the blades, the reaction of the expansion of the steam pushes away from the blades spinning the wheel in the process. The expansion of the steam is necessary to increase its velocity through the turbine.

What is a kind of engine that uses water steam or heat that starts with tur?

The word is "turbine".

How does a turbine and generator work?

The turbine converts pressure & heat energy (in steam turbine & gas turbine), velocity energy (in hydro turbine) into mechanical energy which produces rotation of the turbine. This mechanical force is used to rotate the rotor(which is coupled with the same shaft as that of turbine) of the generator which converts this mechanical energy into electrical energy.

What does a wind turbine do?

A wind turbines uses the wind to power an electricity generator.

What things can a turbine be pushed by?

You can't. They are nearly opposites. The pump uses energy to change fluid flow and the turbine uses fluid flow to produce energy. Actually, you can convert a pump into a turbine. You need all the specifications, though. The most important being the head. There are a number of manuals one can check out

Why would a turbine be used instead of a water wheel?

a turbine would be used instead of a water wheel because a turbine does not use as much energy and it uses the wind to generate it.

What are water mills?

A watermill is a structure that uses a water wheel or turbine to drive a mechanical process. There are two basic types, vertical wheel or horizontal wheel.

What is the uses of packing steam in turbine?

The main uses for packing steam in a turbine are to produce electricity and power. The steam creates pressure when in turn spins a turbine at very high rates of speed.

Is a electric motor use to change mechanical energy into electrical energy?

No, that is a Generator. A motor is used to turn electrical energy into a rotissary action. A car wheel is a motor, as it uses the electrical energy from the battery, and the chemical energy from the fuel to turn the wheel. A generator is something like a wind turbine, as it turns the rotissary action of the turbine from the wind into electricity.

Uses movement of water or wind to spin a turbine?

A windmill uses movement of water or wind to spin a turbine. This is a natural way to make energy and keep it for future use.

Lube oil has three uses what are they in a steam turbine?

1. For lubrication the bearings 2. For controlling the turbine 3. For sealing

How did the steam boat work?

A steam boat uses superheated water (steam) to turn a turbine. This turning turbine thereby is connected to a engine that uses mechanical means to turn a propeller.

Is a wind turbine an example of sound energy?

No. A wind turbine uses mechanical energy (the moving air) to generate electrical energy.

What uses mechanical energy?

A power station generator uses mechanical energy produced by the steam turbine.
