The Opel Astra 2.0 16v engine is an interference and non interference. This is one of them most important aspects that any potential buyer should check. Interference engines rely using timing gears while a non interference engine has a piston that does not go anywhere with open valves.
No. the 1.6 and 1.8 corolla motors are what we call non interference or freewheeling. this means that if the timing belt breaks the chance of engine damage is highly unlikely.
The 1.8 is not a zetec. But just use any oil, Castrol synthetic being the best. Now that's thinking with your dipstick, Jimmy!
If you go through eBay you can normally pick up a 1.25 16v zetec s engine complete with gearbox for a few hundred quid
if it's a 1.6 8v duratec or 1.8/2.0 liter 16v zetec engine, it will.
If it an older ford fiesta it will have a zetec s engine in it. if it newer car e.g 2005 on wards, will have a 1.388 duratec, 16v engine.
Its a single cam.. it says " 2.0 Split Cam on the cover of the engine... A dual cam would say " 16V Zetec" on the engine cover.
If the engine is turning over but the motor is not starting, then the problem could be a major leak in a vacuum line. Spray starting fluid and see if it does anything. If it tries to run but fails then it's the fuel system or a vaccum line. I have a 16v myself and one of those is always the problem. 16v motors are extremely sensitive.
Check the Vehicle Emissions Control Information ( VECI ) decal located in the front of your engine compartment ( it will show the type of spark plugs to use and the spark plug gap )
If the motor is an interference fit(usually 4cylinders are) a broken timing belt would bend the valves.
