Three way speakers are better. They will play louder and more clear than two way speakers, they do this by separating the frequency range up between three speakers instead of two so each speaker does less work and has a more precise and tuned frequency range. You will have much clearer highs, lows and mids from a three way speaker than a two way speaker and alot less distortion. When comparing speakers of different types you should compare from the same manufacturer and as close in price range because they are going to give you the most accurate comparison of the types, otherwise you will be comparing brands. ex- a 2 way Bose speaker will sound better than a 3 way sony speaker. And a top of the line 2 way speaker may sound much better than the bottom level 3 way from the same manfacturer. manufacturer will also come into play as well as price.
Question requires more context in order to be answered
the speakers in the thunderbird are standard paper cone speakers. They are not 3-way though the stock amp in my 95 had plenty enough to drive 4 4-way speakers that i put in it.
The speakers in the front door are 5 1/4-inch two-way speakers. The speakers in the kick panel are 6 1/2 inches. The rear speakers are 6 3/4 inches.

modern warfare 2 all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the number of speaker cones 2 way usually has a woofer and tweeter. The midrange has to be handled by the woofer so they won't sound as good as the 3 way. 3 way usually has woofer, midrange and tweeter so you get more segrated sound with each speaker reproducing what it knows how to. 4 way - not sure, probably just a more spaced out range. 2 way (and 3 way) work great in a system using a subwoofer where you have all low end (100Hz or 80Hz crossover) going to a subwoofer. then the woofer section of the 2 way works as a great midrange. Best thing you can ever do for a car stereo system - put in a subwoofer on its own amp and get all the bottom end equalized out of the other amp, so your main speakers dont' try to produce any bottem end at all. System will sound WAY better, even if you aren't turning up the sub and vibrating the car next to you, it just makes your entire system tighten up and sound better
The back speakers are 10x4 or 4x10. The front corners are 3 1/2
