All 305 Chevy small blocks made from 1976 to 1996 are 2 bolt main bearing. You will not find a 4 bolt 305 that was made by the factory. One may exist, but it was not made by GM.
nothing is wrong with having a 305 but if you want build it up for more power the 350 w/4 bolt mains is the better option if its for daily driving use the 305 its should be better on fuel
No There's no factory 4 bolt main 305's Factory 305 4 bolt mains did exist. I have one, came in a 1983 G20 Chevy Van. AnswerThere were none ever produced...no reason to either. ANSWER is YES They where produced BY GM Canada St. Catherines, Ontario they are rare as heck made for service trucks/vans
Generally, you can't. GM installed both 2 and 4 bolt main caps on many different cylinder block castings. Now, some blocks were never offered with 4 bolt mains. Any low performance displacement (262,267, 305, 307, etc) always had 2 bolt mains. Small journal engines (pre-1969 chevy small blocks) typically had 2 bolt mains even on performance engines.
RODs 45ft-lbs Mains 70ft-lbs
yes
The GM F Body LT1 cars got the 2 bolt mains. Only the Corvette LT1 got the 4 bolt mains with aluminum heads.
I can't answer your question but I can say that my 260 hp 350 Mercruiser has 2 bolt mains and a 4 bolt rear main. Go figure! So I take it from your question that you also have 2 bolt mains with a 4 bolt rear main.
NO
No. Most of them were 2-bolt mains. The 3/4 and 1 ton 350 engines were 4-bolt main engines. All the 1/2 tons had the 2-bolt main block.
It was used in 1986 and up, some of them are 2- bolt mains and 4-bolt mains. They were NOTHING special. It does have a 1-piece rear main seal.
The earliest small block I've encountered with 4 bolt mains was a large journal 327 from about 67 or so.
