"cathiolics and christians in my mind are the same, they both believe in the same thing ( the father the son and the holy spirt, all as one person GOD).and people say theres only one true bible, and christians believe its theres and that cathiolics are wrong all because they added some extra books and they say that's wrong, tell me this how do they know that they just didnt cut them out, all because the thought they were wrong? i really don't know what to belive, but this i do know know ones wrong every ones right, until someone comes up with some strong hard facts..... i know im probably wrong but after all didnt God gives us all a brain and a heart to think with, to chose for our self what is true or not.... so i believe that both catholic and christians are the same... sorry but that's what i believe''

AnswerCatholicism and Christianity should be the same and Scripture says: "You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." But it seems that we are still a long way off because unfortunately history has not been kind to the Church and there were and are things in Catholicism that are not in Christianity e.g. Limbo, the separation of body and soul and the resurrection of the dead on the Last Day, and there are things in Christianity that are only vaguely recognised in Catholicism e.g. the New Covenant, the Kingdom of Heaven and Christ as our King.

Both the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" and the Bible are now avialable in computer format making it easier than ever before to study both Catholicism and Christianity.

Answerwell of course, if you asked a Catholic, they would say yes, but lets see if there are similarities between the "Early Christians" of Jesus day and "Catholics" today--

1. History confirms that the first-century Christians would not shed human blood. A former professor of theology from England, Peter De Rosa, writes: Shedding blood was a grievous sin. This was why Christians opposed gladiatorial combat. While war and the use of force were necessary to preserve Rome, Christians felt unable to join in. ."

Can the same be said of the Catholic religion?

Historian Ernesto Galli Della Loggia, in the CATHOLIC daily Avvenire, said

Religion does not seem to have constructed a unifying framework among men and among peoples, rather the exact opposite. It has been that way for centuries. The greatest religions fought against one another in wars"

So no resemblance there, true Christians did not, and do not, go to war.

2.Now what about the main teaching in todays churches, nearly all churches of Christendom teach that God is a Trinity. The Catholic Encyclopedia calls the Trinity teaching the central doctrine of the Christian religion,

Lets see what the Early Christians believed regarding God--

In The Encyclopedia Americana we read: Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian [believing that God is one person]. Fourth century Trinitarianism did not reflect accurately early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God; it was, onthe contrary, a deviation from this teaching. (1956), Vol.XXVII, p. 294L.

At first the Christian faith was not Trinitarian .

It was not so in the apostolic and sub-apostolic ages, as reflected in the N[ew] T[estament] and other early Christian writings. Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics.

AnswerCatholicism is accepted as a Christian religion by theologians and historians alike. Defining Christianity in accordance with the doctrine of other religions is irrelevant as it designates one's personal beliefs rather than supplying an accurate definition. AnswerSimple put, all who follow Christ teachings as revealed in the Bible are Christians. All 66 books support one truth. Jesus taught this truth. Does the Catholic church also teach this truth? Answer"...the word 'Catholic' means universal, and as applied to the church refers to its worldwide extension, its unbroken tradition going back to the Apostles, and its adherence to the wholeness of the Christian belief."

"'Christian' [is] the name given (by others) to the followers of Jesus Christ"

AnswerAnyone who believes in God and teaches others by their examples and not just fallacious statements and hypocrisies (there are more out than they let on) is not only a Christian but a Catholic as well. Unfortunately the Catholic church at the moment is failing in its obligations to observe the full meanings of Jesus' teachings and thus allowing so many to fall by the wayside. The christian churches are losing their meanings as well as ability by their willingness and overzealous (hatred) of the Catholic church instead of working alongside it. True Catholics and Christians alike would abhor the current church structure as well as their current sentiments concerning Judaism and the Muslim religion (or lack thereof),as more and more people daily are blind to the fact that all are God's children and most importantly equal humans. Even christian treatment of nonchristian choices is becoming disasterous as many are starting to believe they have the power to pass judgment, when even Jesus himself did not have that power. According to his own words he was just the voice and the vessel of God. Any religion that praises God and upholds his wish to unite humanity via peaceful examples are the same religion in the way they all ask the same small price love of your fellow man, and after thousands of years Christians and all God lovers still cannot get it right as they are too wound up in their selfish love of God, they fail to acknowledge that their relationship to Him is also dependant on their relationship to His creation. In other words: Stop creating rifts within God's people instead find the similarities of all religions for that is part of the truth of His will and his love of mankind. AnswerNo, they are not the same. AnswerCatholicism is one form of a Christian religion, just like the Methodist, Protestant and Episcopalian religions are different but all fall under the umbrella of Christianity. Both believed in ChristThe word for what we know now as Christianity, is the break-away Protestants. Since Protestant connotes a negative meaning, it was changed to Christianity.

No they are not the same because I don't believe Christianity is a religion. Just because you go to church does not mean that you are a Christian. You must repent of your sins and accept Christ as your savior. Anyone can do that no matter what religion.

AnswerNo, they are not even close to the same. Catholic's added books to the Bible that talk about purgatory which is praying peoples way into Heaven. NO-ONE can get ANYONE into Heaven, that's why Jesus died for us so, it's like their claiming they are Jesus. And Christians have the TRUE Bible, and live like Christ. Understand that their are people claiming to be a Christian, but if they aren't loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self controlled than they aren't true Christians. answer:9-18-09Im a catholic and to me they both the same..we both believe in god.OK i know us Catholics believe in Mary but it doesn't matter..I know some Christians who supposedly believe in god but they talk alot of bull about Catholics..theres no difference..but that's my opinion. Catholic AnswerOur Blessed Lord only founded one Church, the Catholic Church, it is the only one that was founded by Him and has been in existence ever since. It is thus the "Christian" Church. However, the word Christian is used by protestants to describe their religion, so it really depends on the point of view, if you are asking from God's point of view, then a Christian is someone who is baptized and believes in the Nicene Creed - in its traditional interpretration. Christians are all members of the Catholic Church, although there are some who are not visible members (some protestants who are baptized and sincerely trying to follow Our Blessed Lord). All other uses of the word are modern corruptions.
Catholicism IS Christianity! It is the original Christian Church as founded by Jesus Christ and His apostles 2000 years ago. It is the only religion that still is the deposit of faith as left to us by Christ. All other religions that call themselves Christian have their roots in Catholicism. Another AnswerYes, Christian and Roman Catholic are the same thing. HOWEVER, there are Christians who are not Roman Catholic - that is were it gets a little confusing. Since there are different branches of the Catholic Church: Maronite Catholic, Armenian Catholic, etc. They are all Christians. Then there are the Orthodox churches that broke away from Rome in the 11th century: Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox. Finally there are the Protestants who broke away in the 16th century. Most of the later are baptised. If they are baptised in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, then they are considered Christians. further clarificationBasically, those who are baptized and believe in Jesus are Christian and those who are baptized, and believe in Jesus Christ, and accept the bishops and Pope as their leaders, and celebrate the seven sacraments are Roman Catholics.

All Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic.

Yes, Christianity and Catholicism are one and the same religion.

Catholicism is the practice of someone who belongs to the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church is a Christian church, and in it's self understanding, the Church of Christ subsists in the Catholic Church (though is not identical with it). All Catholics are Christian, though not all Christians are Catholic.

So, if someone practices Catholicism, their religion isChristianity.

.

AnswerThe Catholic Church does not put any official definition on the word "Christian", Fr. Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionarydefines a Christian as a person who is validly baptized and believes in the essentials of the Christian faith, notably in the Apostles' Creed. Thus Christianity, as such, is not really a defined religion, it refers to the state of a person who believes in it, and is baptized into it. Catholicism IS the defined religion, as defined by Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ. Thus all Catholics should be Christians, however many, many people define Christianity in so many ways as to make it absolutely meaningless, so the best answer one could give using current definitions of words is No, they are not the same religion. To press the issue further is to antagonize people who are using the same words with completely different meanings making any meaningful discussion kind of fruitless.

Christian

from

A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957

Christian A name first given to the followers of our Lord at Antioch (Acts xi, 26). Since the rise of Protestantism the name has been used in so many different senses as to have become almost meaningless: it may indicate a Catholic or a Unitarian, or even be applied to an infidel who displays some virtue which is associated with Christ. It may reasonably be applied to the members of all the ancient churches, whether in communion with the Holy See, or not, and to those Protestants who profess, explicitly or implicitly, the Nicaean creed in its traditional interpretation. The Church puts no definite official meaning on the word, as she does on Catholic.

Christianity is the religion of, the body of faith and morals taught by, the Catholic Church of Christ. The word may be properly extended to include the religious systems of the dissident Eastern -churches and of some Protestant bodies. The current popular use of the word in an ethical, subjective sense, is to be deplored: it is stripping it of all objective or historical connotations.
