(Prov 20:1 KJV) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Now ask your self is something that is"raging" and a "mocker" clean.

Jeremiah 35:5-6 (King James Version)5And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine. 6But they said, We will drink NO wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink NO wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

In these vs. it says NO wine not just a little this means no wine is ok. it doesent say they can drink a little as long as they dont get drunk.

Judges 9:13 Wine, which cheereth God and man

Yes i know there are many vs. such as this one that say wine is good but the fact is this is not talking about fermented wine.

  • YAYIN: Intoxicating, fermented wine
  • TIROSH: Fresh Grape Juice
  • SHAKAR: Intoxicating, intensely alcoholic, strong drink

These are the three definitions of wine in the Old Testament taken from the very first written bible

In any dictionary made in the 1860's or before will say that wine is fermented and unfremented we today have changed the meanings of many words

Believing the word wine every time you see it in The Bible is fermented, would be like saying every time you see the word man in the bible that it is a male all because we today have changed too much.

Some Christians today argue that whenever "wine" was used by Jesus or praised as a gift of God, it was really grape juice; only when it caused drunkenness was it wine. Thus, they interpret the Bible as asserting that grape juice is good and that drinking it is acceptable to God but that alcohol is bad and that drinking it is religiously unacceptable.

This reasoning appears to be incorrect for at least two reasons. First, neither the Hebrew nor Biblical Greek words for wine can be translated or interpreted as referring to grape juice. 4 The same Hebrew and Greek word is used for the wine that Jesus drank and the wine that made Noah drunk. 5 Second, grape juice would very quickly ferment into wine in the warm climate of the Mediterranean region without refrigeration or modern methods of preservation.

Another Answer:

The Bible makes it clear that Jesus drank wine (Matthew 15:11; Luke 7:33-35) and approved of its moderate consumption (Matthew 15:11). On the other hand, he was critical of drunkenness (Luke 21:34, 12:42; Matthew 24:45-51).

The Bible states clearly in different books that drinking is a sin, and all sins are punishable by going to HELL if a person does not repent. Sins are only forgiven through Christ, for he is the Savior. Galatians 5 verse 21 tells us that drinking will not let us into the Kingdom of God...and belive me you don't wanna be left out of that Kingdom.

Alcohol consumption is frowned upon by some denominations such as Methodists and Salvation Army. Other Christian denominations are either neutral or supportive of moderate alcohol consumption.

OpinionIf Jesus approves of it, then I guess it's not against the Christian religion. Read Matthew 26:29.

Added by Johnv714:

Scripture does not in and of itself denounce the consumption of alcohol. In fact, it praises it in at least one passage, and records Jesus consuming wine. What scripture DOES forbid is overt drunkenness. Hence, if you want to have an alcoholic beverage, it's permitted. If you're intending drinkl with the goal of getting plastered, it's not permitted.

Drinking alcohol is a part of human behavior and nothing to do with religion. Christian religion doesn't oppose to the consumption of alcohol.

It really just depends on how strict a particular church is. Most Christian churches don't approve of alcohol, but most don't condemn it either. Some churches actually use wine in the communion ceremony, so it is truly just dependent on the church.

Yes. But, as usual with any of the appetites, it is generally recommended (in most Christian denominations) that they do so in moderation.
