Catholics I know have pointed to the fact that Masons are a secret society and shied away from them. Baptists and Protestants have joined the Masons, even preachers I have known. In the late seventies, Moody Monthly listed Masons and Eastern Star as cults. While Masons read The Bible, it seems to be more of a ritual or a "work." Some of the secret practices of freemasonery seem to be rather silly to Christians or even "dark" practices that do not honor God. There is evidence that Joseph Smith was a mason and that Mormon practices include those very similar to freemasonery. If nothing else, the Mormon Temple practices are secret, like those of the secret society called The Masons.

Most of the men in the founding of our nation were Masons. Washington, Franklin, Adams, Paine were all Masons. Since they were part of the founding of the United States and were involved the revolution that is what the Masons had to do with the war.
Christians were not really viewed as enemies, but they incurred the displeasure of the pagan Roman government because they did not seem entirely loyal. The emperors were concerned that Christians could not be relied upon to do what the government required, preferring to accept the authority of their own bishops instead, and thus fostering disunity in the empire. Nevertheless, the government generally preferred to ignore the Christians, and there were really only two brief periods of official persecution - 249 to 251, and 303 to 311.
"The Masons" have had very little influence on American currency. However, a great number of individuals who happen to be _members_ of one or another of the Masonic Lodges have had considerable influence over many aspects of American life. It's a matter of "these citizens who happen to be Masons" rather than "the Masons as an organization".

Christians were called together to fight against enemies of the church during a meeting at the Council of Clermont.

Infidels Correction: Muslims called Christians Infidels. Christians called Muslims Saracens.
All Masons believe that there is a Supreme Being or single god. However there is no restrictions in most Grand Lodges on the particular manifestation of that belief, so Masons can be and are Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jews, Hindus or believers in some unorganized faith.
Because they hated them and considered them enemies of the State.
The Christians were not considered enemies of the Roman Empire. What was questioned was their loyalty to the imperial government, rather that their loyalty to the empire as such. Most Christians were citizens of the Roman Empire who converted from paganism to Christianity.
