Overall, Americans are more obese and have higher cholesterol than Italians, mainly due to differences in diet. Americans love fast food which is invariably higher in fat content and lower in nutritional value. Italians also drink more wine which can have a cholesterol lowering effect even in fairly small amounts. Life expectancy is slightly higher in Italy but it's a tiny difference and studies like this can be manipulated. For instance, the People's Republic of China supposedly has the longest life expectancy but that's very hard to measure externally so we have to rely on numbers provided by their government.

I believe more than half of Italians are married. This is probably due to strong family ties and commitments. Americans aren't as faithful and committed as Italians.

Also, Italians are much pickier about food and generally schedule their meals, oftentimes finding it odd that Americans don't schedule meals and have little to no "food culture."
