The Adventist church began with a group of believers in Jesus Christ's soon return. They came from many denominations; however, none of the founders were from the Church of Latter Day Saints. Over the history of the Adventist church many have come from the Church of Latter Day Saints (and other denominations) and have become Seventh-day Adventists.

No, the Seventh-day Adventist Church (formally established in 1863) came from the Millerite movement of the early 1800s. The Jehovah's Witnesses were an unrelated group that was formed after 1870.

No. Adventists and Mormons belong to two completely different Christian denominations. Most who would call themselves Adventists belong to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and most who call themselves Mormons belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While both of these churches are Christian and share common beliefs such as salvation through Jesus Christ and the Holy Bible as scripture, their other beliefs and practices are quite different. One difference that stands out is the Adventist belief in a Saturday Sabbath and the Mormon belief in a Sunday Sabbath. Check out the "Related Links" below to learn more about each faith.

No. The Adventist and Mormonism movements both grew out of the Second Great Awakening in the United States, and thus they do share some similarities of belief. However the two groups were never the same, and one did not break off of the other, they both grew independently.

No, they are not. Adventists and Mormons have a fairly similar background, growing out of the Second Great Awakening period in the early 1800's eastern United States. Both had a founder that was considered unconventional with some fairly radical teachings by mainstream Christianity. Both churches are known for having health codes, championing religious liberty, promoting conservative moral ideals, and having traditionally devout followers. Both churches have fairly similar membership numbers (Mormons claim 16 million and Seventh Day Adventists claim 20 million as of 2018). Both have several offshoot groups including infamous fundamentalist cults such as the Branch Davidians (Adventists) and the FLDS (Mormons). However, they are most definitely not the same church or affiliated with one another. While both can be categorized as Christian at the most fundamental level (believing Jesus Christ is the Son of God and in The Bible as scripture), their theology and doctrine is quite different. The most notable difference in theology is probably in their views of the afterlife. Adventists believe the wicked will be permanently destroyed rather than suffer in hell, and that there is no consciousness after death. Mormons on the other hand believe that we continue to learn and progress in the afterlife, gaining knowledge in the presence of God. The majority of the wicked will eventually come to accept Jesus and be able to transfer to a lesser version of heaven after a period of punishment. Other differences between the two faiths include the views on the Trinity, infallibility of the Bible, and Saturday vs. Sunday Sabbath.

No. The Mormonism movement and the Adventist movement both started in similar circumstances in a similar time and place. Because of this they have some similarities in practice and doctrine. However, they are not related (i.e. they do not have a common history or common 'ancestor' church, they developed independently of each other).
