Yes, Muslims are allowed to have pets. They are allowed also to have dogs but should be careful not to be contaminated by Dog's mouth outs. Muslims should be merciful to animals they are maintaining and to cover their food and drinking needs.

∙ 13y agoHaving dogs as pets is forbidden in Islam due to their ritual impurity. However, it is allowed to have dogs for guarding houses and/farms and for hunting purposes. Muslims are commanded to treat animals kindly. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that a prostitute was forgiven by God (Allah) and accepted in His paradise, despite her major sin of committing prostitution, because she provided a thirsty dog with water when the dog was on verge of dying of thirst.

∙ 12y agoHandicapped people may keep service dogs; property owners may own guard dogs who patrol certain areas--such as lunging at trespassers. Cats and DOGS might urinate or defecate in the streets, Muslims are a very clean people--their houses, their clothing, etc. Such that indoor dogs and cats are strongly discouraged

Dogs are not absolutely prohibited in Islam. It is allowed to use dogs for security reasons or for helping the blind or for detecting the criminals,... etc. However, they are not allowed in homes just for fun. A prostitute offered water to a dog that was on verge of death because of thirsty and was told by prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that she was forgiven from all her sins and accepted in God Paradise for her kind treatment to the dog.

∙ 12y agoEating Dog is ha ram because if you DO NOT clean it its dirty and the meat is not pure but you can keep a dog as a pet but if you pray Namaaz in your home you cannot keep one in your house but if you don't then it's perfectly okay!

i don't think so that it is written any where , in ISLAM dog is ONLY allowed for safety / survilience purpose , you know where the Dog resides (house) the angels don't enter in that house ! any how please let me know the reference of the thing you mentioned in your above post. I am providing this hadith as a proof of my mentioned sentence in the bold text
Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 54, Number 542:
Narrated Sufyan bin Abi Zuhair Ash-Shani: That he heard Allah's Apostle saying, "If somebody keeps a dog that is neither used for farm work nor for guarding the livestock, he will lose one Qirat (of the reward) of his good deeds everyday."
