SUV that are based upon truck frames are always heavier than SUV that are based upon a car chassis. The added steel and bracing that allows a truck to carry heavy gear, and survive off road battering, adds weight a car simply doesn't need.
A car can be low slung, and only clear the road by a few inches. An Xterra has a lot of ground clearance to get over obstacles, deep snow, etc...so it sits higher.
As there is no magic number that = "top heavy", I'd say that compared to a car, all trucks are going to be relatively top heavy.
Xterra's are not top heavy when compared to other SUV based upon truck frames, and, they can operate off road while leaned over quite far, without tipping over.
On the road, at higher speeds, all truck frame based SUV will handle differently than a low slung car or car based SUV would, as it has more weight, and, that weight is higher off the ground.
