When I bought my Yaris back in 2009, I was about to drive North of Chicago to a Carmax dealership that sells new Toyotas. They had the price and discount listed online so there was nothing to haggle over. I live in Indianapolis so it was going to be a 4 hour trip on way then back again.
About a day before I was going to drive up and get the car, I contacted my local Toyota dealers and asked them if they could just meet the price that Carmax listed. One dealer contacted me and told me they had the same color only with a few more options that they were willing to sell to me for the sale price.
So overall I think I got a good price, but that was 4 years ago. I would recommend to try truecar.com or carmamx.com to find out what the price of a car should be. Always visit the dealer near the end of the month. If they are operating on a quota, they will need to make their quota. Don't go at the end because they either failed to meet or surpassed the quota and you are your bargaining power isn't as great. Only when they think they are in line to meet their quota are they really willing to sell. Sometimes the dealer has meet the quota and will get a super bonus for exceeding so many over the quota. I bought a 4-runner in 2001 and the guy I was buying from had sold four cars that day. He was a retired fireman in Obama and he pulled me aside and told me what to ask. I did and the GM agreed to it. I saved about 5 thousand under sticker. Plus I got a rebate. My daughter still drives that 4-runner with about 200k miles.
Bottom line, you can't beat a Toyota. They are rock solid and even if you overpay, it will last a long time so you will recoup your money!
