Allah means "only true God" ...Yahweh or Jehovah is Hebrew and means, "He Causes

to Become", or "He is coming to be".

They both are the one and only "God" to their respective faiths.

There are probably few who hold that they refer to the very same God.

If a person is speaking of the One God - unseen, all powerful, not like anything in His creation, has no equals, no partners and no offspring, is the One who created life, gives the command for things to occur, guides whom He loves and leads astray whom He does not love, is the Judge of all Mankind on the day of Judgment, then it does not matter so much which language you use. It is the same. In Hebrew, God is most often called Elohim. The "im" is a suffix at the end of the word. The root word for Elohim is "Eloh". Eloh in Hebrew, Allah in Arabic. If Jesus spoke Aramaic, as the historians say, then he called God Allah - that is also the name of God in Aramaic. Same God. The One and Only. Glory be to God.

Allah is the Arabic word for God. The J word used in this question is a Christian misspelling of the Hebrew name for God. (Christians also seem to be completely unaware of how offensive it is to Jews to spell this name out).

Most people believe that Muslims, Jews, and Christians believe in the same God.

According to Muslims, yes. Those belonging other faiths, such as Christianity and Judaism, however, may disagree.

The name "Yahweh" is actually a modernized version of the ancient Hebrew name for God. In fact, the ancient Hebrews reverenced God so greatly that they rarely spoke and wrote His name outright. Their written texts employed only consonants (not vowels), and so the name has been transmitted to us in modern times as YHWH. (The word "Yahweh" is a modern attempt to supply the vowels that are not used in the ancient texts.)

The exact meaning of the ancient name YHWH is uncertain; it is likely connected to the verb "to be" or "to exist." In other words, God is simply the One who truly exists. Thus, in the Christian Old Testament and Hebrew Torah, the Book of Exodus records (in Chapter 3) that Moses had an encounter with God on Mount Horeb. When Moses asked what name he should tell his people, he received this reply:

"And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." (Exodus 3:14, King James translation of The Bible)

The name "Allah" is the word for God used by Arabic-speaking peoples. It is an Arabic word, and the Koran or Qur'an is a text transmitted in Arabic by Muhammad of Mecca. The word or name "Allah" does not appear in the Hebrew Torah, the Hebrew Prophets and Writings, or in the Christian Bible (which is composed of the Old and New Testaments). The Torah, and the Christian Old Testament, was originally set down in Hebrew, with some Aramaic. The New Testament was recorded in ancient common Greek (also called Koine Greek), again with some Aramaic.

Both the ancient Hebrew Writings and the Christian New Testament have come down to us from a tradition established by numerous hands (prophets, lawgivers, judges, scribes), whereas the the Koran or Qur'an is entirely the composition of Muhammad, whom Muslims consider the last and greatest prophet. Neither Judaism nor Christianity, however, recognize Muhammad as a prophet, and the Koran or Qur'an is not viewed as a sacred text by either Jews or Christians.

That depends on what you believe. Yaweh is the same as Jehovah - which most Christians believe is Jesus Christ. Elohim is God the Father. Trinitarian Christians believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ are one God, and nontrinitarian Christians believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ are two separate beings united in purpose.

These are some names of God: I AM – the very name of God, Yahweh – self-existent one, Adonai – Lord over all. Then other names reveal different aspects of Him: Yahweh Rapha - God our healer, Yahweh Sabaoth – Lord of Hosts.

On the other hand, Elohim is a Uni-plural word that refers to God and Christ as one, like the uni-plural words family, church, team, etc. This is why Elohim said in Genesis 1:26, “let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness”.

John 1:1-3 make it clear that God and Christ, called here “the Word”, were working together as one throughout the creation process: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word WAS God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Proof that this was referring to Jesus, verse 14, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” and verse 10 says, “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”

Do Muslims and Jews worship the same god?

Yes. Allah is the standard word for God in Arabic, and therefore Allah is a term used by Arabic speakers in reference to the idea of "God." In Judaism god was addressed as YHWH (the modern-day version being "Yahweh"). He is the same god but each religion has a different name for him.

Are Allah and Jesus and Yahweh all friends?

Allah and Yahweh are two names for the same deity that is worshiped by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. According to Christians, Jesus is the son of this God and, in a sense, and earthly manifestation of Him. According to Muslims, Jesus is not the son of God, but is still a very important prophet, and so could be regarded as a friend of God.

If Allah is the main god why do non Muslims not believe in him?

Allah is "the Deity" in Arabic language and is worshiped by Muslims. Non-Muslims worship "the Deity" and name Him differently in their own languages. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Christians aren't non-muslims, they believe in the same God - but call him Jehova/Yahweh so they do believe in Allah. Jews aren't non-muslims, they believe in the same God - but call him Elohim so they do believe in Allah.

What is to Islam as Yahweh is to Judaism?

The most common answer to this analogy would be: Allah is to Islam as Yahweh is to Judaism, but this is incorrect for two reasons outlined below. This analogy does not have a proper answer for two major reasons. Firstly, Yahweh is a name that archaeologists have ascribed to Jewish worship that Jews themselves have not accepted as a name of God. They believe the YHVH to be unpronounceable. Secondly, even if we say that Yahweh represents the YHVH, it is the "Name of God", not just the "occupation of being God", i.e. the difference between Zeus (name of a god) and "god of thunder" (occupation of being a god). Muslims do not ascribe a name to their God, so there is no functional equivalent to Yahweh in Islam. Allah is merely the Arabic word for "God" and is therefore a reference to his occupation. The Jewish equivalent of Allah would be El or Elohim.
