Vtec is one of Honda's biggest achievements, so they like to show off the name. So if its not anywhere on the car or engine then it doesnt have it. If its EX than hell yeah. By the way = vtec Yep i believe 1.6 L, SOHC Single Over Head Cam, maybe DOHC Dual Over Head Cam!!

Honda does NOT always have the word "VTEC" on all engines or cars that come equipped with VTEC. Some common Civics (and their engine codes) in the US that come with VTEC are: - '92-'95 Civic EX (2-door and 4-door) (D16Z6 = 1.6L SOHC VTEC, about 125 hp) - '92-'95 Civic Si (3-door) (D16Z6 = 1.6L SOC VTEC, about 125 hp) - '92-'95 Civic VX (3-door) (D15Z1 = 1.5L SOHC VTEC-E (economy), about 92 hp) - '96-'00 Civic EX (2-door and 4-door) (D16Y8 = 1.6L SOHC VTEC, about 127 hp) - '96-'00 Civic HX (2-door) (D16Y5 = 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E (economy), about 113 hp) - '99-'00 Civic Si (2-door) (B16A2 = 1.6L DOHC VTEC, about 160 hp)

Some D16Z6 in the EX and Si, for example, did not says "VTEC" on the valve cover. '94-'95 models did. The easiest way to tell if your engine has VTEC is to either read off the engine code (this is located on a flat angled panel on the front passenger side of the engine block to the passenger side of the exhaust manifold) and Google it... OR ...look to the far upper passenger side corner of the valve cover. Look for a cylinder about two inches tall or so. It's probably a bronze color and sits upright like a can of soda. That is the VTEC solenoid. If you don't see it, you don't have VTEC on that engine.
