A computer virus, by definition, is anything that can infect a computer without the user's consent. Viruses are a type of malicious code, but a program that contains malicious code is not specifically a virus.

Malicious code is basically any program or script with ill intent. Malicious code may be designed to, but is not limited to, steal personal information or damage your computer.
