Best Answer

No, brownies are technically 'cakes'.

ANSWER

no they are brownies or cakes or chocolate squares

ANSWER

No, you are both technically wrong. Brownies are a type of cookie called bar cookies.

Yet another answer :-)

It seems like the masses disagree on what a Brownie is :-)

I would just like to point out that it is normally baked as a cake in a square pan.

After baking it is sort of dry like a cookie.

It is also cut up in squares at the size of a cookie.

It is normally served the same way as a cookie would be.

It is simply one of those cakes that taste like a cookie. Mouth watering already. Where do I have that recipy for it... I am going to make some.

No, brownies are not usually classified as cakes. Cakes generally have a good "rise" on them, meaning that they use a rising agent (such as baking powder) most brownies use little to no rising agent. It is believed that the brownie was accidentally created when a baker forgot to add baking powder to a cake and the results were a moist "cookie", but that has never been proven.
