A brownie a baked square, bar or cookie. They are a cross between a cake and a cookie and may include a variety of ingredients such as nuts, chocolate chips, marzipan and so on. They are often eaten with milk, tea or coffee.
They first came into existence in the United States towards the end of the 19th century. However they did not become globally popular until they were imported to Canada in the 20th century.
