Even though the average wage in the US is higher, we in the U.K are charged more for pretty much everything. This is why you get a lot of U.K tourists going over to NY and buying lots of clothing and other items, assuming that the exchange rate is good, which at present it is not. With the current exchange rate things are not too much more expensive for us to buy everything at home.
