While dogs are allowed within the park boundaries there are strict regulations that limit the activities available to you. In short dogs must be on leash at all times and cannot go on trails or more than 100 feet from parking areas or campgrounds.

Unfortunately in order to fully enjoy your visit to any National Park you should either bring a dog-sitter or leave your pooch at home.
You have to walk a short distance to Old Faithful from the parking lot, down a short trail. According to the Yellowstone website, Pets are prohibited in the backcountry and on trails and boardwalks.
Dogs are only allowed in one area of the park itself; the viewing benches near Old Faithful. The dog must be on a leash less than or equal to 6 feet long. They are allowed in the parking areas and within 100 feet of a paved road.
Each park has its own regulations. In general, leashed dogs are allowed in developed areas in parks, but not usually on trails.
