However, George Romero's movie "Night of the Living Dead" - and all the spin offs and sequels - has popularized them beyond all imagining.
Such that it created an entire genre, and one that is still quite profitable. It also resonates well with those who love the post-apocalyptic genre.
The interest is so great, that books have been wrote about how to deal with Zombie attacks and/or invasions.
