Education is more important, but if you are learning what you are being taught your grades will reflect it.

In the case of someone you don't like, manners allow you to interact with that person in a neutral and direct manner without having your personal feeling colour the situation. This can be one of the biggest assets of life. Good manners are equally important behavior toward everyone, including your family.
