No, if a person is allergic to dogs, the dog's shed fur is not to blame, nor does it cause the allergy. It's the individual person's sensitivity to dog dander, or skin flakes, as well as the dog's saliva and urine, can cause an allergic reaction.

There are some breeds of dogs that can be better tolerated by human allergy sufferers, though there isn't such a thing as a true "hypoallergenic" dog breed. The Great Pyrenees is not a breed recommended for people who have Allergies.

We just got an adorable Great Pyrenees puppy, and so far my daughter and I (who normally have moderate allergies with most dogs) have had NO allergic symptoms at all. He's licked us, accidentally scratched us, nibbled on our fingers and ears with no red marks, hives, itchy eyes, etc. Their fur is very unique, as it has two distinct layers, and I think this contributes to them being tolerant for allergy sufferers. Their skin is also very pink with brown spots (they have the cutest pink bellies!), and I can see there is no dander on his skin.

I can't guarantee everyone with allergies the same result, but we're very happy with our Great Pyr puppy!

Great Pyrenees are mountain Dogs which were bred to live in extreme cold climates and as such have a very long and thick coat. Therefore they will shed alot during the warmer months.
