Yes. No one can offer a higher or lower price for health or life insurance for the same product from the same company. Prices are fixed by law.

Example: If you spoke to 10 insurance agents that all represented XYZ company or went to 10 websites that all represent XYZ company (let's say a major insurance company), they all received the exact same price or rate book for that company. Even if you call XYZ company direct and speak to a "captive" agent (which means they actually work for that particular insurance company only), they will all have the same price or rate book.

This was done to protect you. Otherwise, it would be the "wild west with everyone charging different prices for the same product. Remember, this is insurance. It is completely different than buying a TV or a pair of shoes online. People have gotten so used to "shopping" for the best price that they assume it is the same for insurance, and it is not priced that way.

If XYZ company changes their prices (ex: has a rate increase) then all of those agents (independent or captive) or websites, throw out that old price book and now must use the new price book.

It doesn't matter if you are speaking to independent agents, viewing multiple websites, saw a TV ad, etc. Same company, same product...same price.

Remember, prices for most insurance are based on you. Typical things used to quote a price are (age, gender, height/weight, tobacco use, health history, etc.). Each product is different, but those are some examples.

Support your Independent Agent, they can quote multiple companies for you, their services are free of charge to you (by law), and as we just discussed, the price is the same. They basically will do all the heavy lifting for you (all the research, etc.) . If you call a captive agent or the company direct, you'd have to call multiple companies or speak to many agents, just to get several quotes. Whereas your independent agent is like one-stop shopping. One agent, multiple quotes.

Is against the law or employer to refuse health insurance?

It is not against the law for an employer to refuse health insurance to their employees. Many companies and major corporations do offer health insurance through health benefits administrators, which are part of the HR department of the company you work for. You might want to get more information about this for your company or from the health benefits administrator of your company.
