Wow. That is a question, isn't it. I had to go and think about that one for a second. I am an old school, big V-8, Chevy guy. However, in my moment of reflection, an incident, or trip to a remote track in Nevada a few years back, came to mind. There were 6, big V-8, Detroit iron type cars there, and over 60 tuner cars. The track would not have been open, or maybe even there, if not for the tuner guys. And, they treated me with nothing but respect. Anyone who takes the time to modify a car, deserves the chance, to race, and show it off. A lot of old school guys would disagree with me here, however, there should be a certain mutual respect between two people, who have like minded interests. Getting more power out of something stock. Which is what muscle cars were really about. A diamond in the rough, to take home and hone. They both certainly hold an equal place in racing history. And, I am for anything that further promotes, a sport I love. I just wish that more of the tuner guys would get together, and open tracks, rather than race on the street. They need to realize that their image suffers, because of the stereotype. And innocent people get hurt. Don't get me wrong. I have side stepped the clutch on many old Chevies at 7000rpms, on the green traffic light. But that was history, and we all need to learn from it. Is one better than the other. No, I do not think so. The tuner cars really arent much different than the early hot rods. Stripped down. Light weight. Purpose built. Sometimes they remind me of the early, 32 Fords, stripped down, for racing.
I'll add to the above answer a little bit. The tuners really do have a lot going for them, but in some ways they are a gigantic waste of time. Here's why: As impressive as it may be to see a 2 liter engine crank out the amount of power that many of the tuners do, bolting the same technology on an older V8 would result in a power output that simply isn't possible with the small engines. My question has always been why build a Honda Civic when you can build a Camaro or Mustang instead? Late model Camaros and Mustangs are cheap, plentiful, and already have large engines that make pretty good horsepower in stock form. Why not start with a performance car instead of an econobox if the idea is to go fast? Just my two cents....

Which are better cars: muscle cars or tuner cars?
Muscle cars, usually refers to Factory built performance cars, while Tuner means aftermarket mods. It's usually depends on what you want. A Factory original Muscle car will Always be worth more than a tuner car (Original price vs. sell price). Often it is cheaper to buy a high performance car than "Mod" a lower model but that mainly depends on if you do the work yourself or have someone else do it. You could mod a mustang for $5,000 yourself or pay $10k to have some one else mod it to make the same power. Tuner cars are definitely more specific than a factory muscle car.. be it more drag racing focused or track oriented.

Not in my book I think Dodge is better because its American made you gotta like American muscle cars

Is a muscle car faster than an import?
Muscle cars are "usually" designed mainly/historically for straight-line performance... and in that respect they are faster than 99% of imports of the same year that are of similar price. More than often, you have to choose an Import that is MUCH more expensive... to beat a Muscle car in a straight-line acceleration. No import in the 60's could come close to "Muscle cars" of the era. Historically Muscle cars aren't best on a road course...but that isn't true "for the most part" nowadays.
