In general, the names of Dog Breeds are not capitalized. Exceptions to this rule are breeds that have a name based upon a global location. For example, Alaskan malamute, Siberian husky, and Labrador retriever. On the other hand, boxers, Rottweiler's, and golden retriever have no capitalization.

∙ 14y agoIf by animal names you are referring to horses, cows, sheep, coyotes, etc., then no. Only proper nouns are capitalized. If a person's name is part of the name of the animal, such as Morgan horse, Jack Russell terrier, that that portion, being a proper noun is capitalized. If you are referring to the name of a pet, or an animal in a zoo who has a name, such as Rex, Gertrude, Bernie, or Yogi, then these too are capitalized as they are also proper nouns.
