Are narcissists trouble makers and always eager and ready to start and fuel any conflict?

My narcissist is always telling me that their over the top reaction is my fault and that I am constantly starting problems. This used to be because I could not understand how he could be so emotionally absent and so critical of so many things I did/said or didn't do and say and I often tried to discuss situations to get him to understand he was being unfair to me and gain some understanding. However since realising this is a complete waste of time and stopping doing this I have noticed that even when there is no obvious source of conflict, he tends to pick on something - anything - minor and criticise me fiercely for that. Again, he blames this on me starting it! So although I can only speak from my experience I feel that it is possible even if you comply with everything to try and keep the peace, they may decide to provoke trouble - then blaming it on you - to keep control and make you out to be the party in the wrong, therefore hoping for apologies from you. I feel my partner likes to feel the control of putting me in a situation where I feel I am in the wrong for doing something to upset him and if there is not an obvious reason for this he engineers one. Many narcissists are easily bored and like to argue "for sport." Their argumentative nature makes them feel very special. As if getting along and playing nicely with people indicates a lack of superior intelligence.
