Yes that buzzing sound means that it is working.

A whining noise from the fuel pump indicates that your fuel pump is close to failing. You should replace your fuel pump to avoid being stranded or unable to start your vehicle. All fuel pumps will emit a humming noise, but if you can hear it from inside the car, replace your fuel pump in time.
Electric fuel pumps can be expected to make a humming noise because they have an electric motor inside them. Excessively loud humming can predict impending failure. You should compare the sound to other cars of the same make and model. If the noise is significantly louder, it is time to be saving up for a repair. A trusted technician would really be a good resource for you...a good tech can tell a lot from the sound.
You will not hear a noise till you turn the key to the start position because it does not send fuel till needed to run the engine 1987? Is this a mechanical pump, if so it will not make noise, if electrical, it may have had rubber insulation on it when you put it into the tanks and they dont make much noise when full of gas. Does it have fuel pressure of any sort?
The fuel pump is engaged.
a humming noise is usually related to the fuel pump about to go. or u just have a really loud fuel pump and everything is fine.
All fuel pumps make some noise. If the noise is much louder than other fuel injected cars your fuel pump is defective. Fuel pumps that make noise normally fail before long.
sending unit makes loud humming noise from fuel tank
Fuel pump?
on cars that run with fuel injection it would be the fuel pump, or high performance cars that use electric fuel pumps.
You are probably hearing the fuel pump, this is normal.
YES it is. GM had a problem with the fuel pumps making noise and still does.
The humming is a series of explosions in the engine happenning very quickly. Could also be an electric fuel pump if the vehicle is equipped with one.
