Best Answer

The sum of protons and neutrons in the atomic nucleus is called "mass number"; this value is different for each isotope.

Yes, the number of protons in an atom is the same as that element's atomic number, which we designate as Z. It is the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom that determines which element it is. Period.

No, just the number of protons. The number of neutrons can be different for isotopes of the same element. The element is determined only by the number of protons in its nucleus.

More neutrons in the nucleus than "normal" will not change the atom, it will just make it "heavier" (e.g. - Deuterium and Tritium, both of which have an atomic number of 1, are "heavy" versions of hydrogen).

The total of the protons and the neutrons for an isotope is the atomic weight.

More or less electrons orbiting the nucleus will not change the element either; it just changes the charge. Such charged atoms are ions.

Yes and the protons, neutrons and the electrons are exactly the same in every single atom, from carbon to gold. It is only the number which defines the element. This is like saying that we can make an apple from 10 grapes or a watermelon from 30 grapes. It is impossible to get something entirely new from adding more of the same substance. However if we were to put 10 grapes into a plastic container and shake it, we would hear a sound and if we added more grapes we would hear a different sound. It is the sound that the oscillating protons emits which is responsible for the atoms identity, not the number of protons, they are just responsible for the change in freqeuncy.

Also in Cymatics we see sound been used to create form or mathematical, geometric patterns, just like the geometric patterns we see in everyday life, like on the head of a sunflower or on a pine cone. These patterns are repeatable in that the same sound always produces the same pattern and the higher the frequency, the more intricate the pattern. So, not only is it sound that is responsible for what element an atom is, it is also responsible for holding all of the atoms together.

The atomic number of an element is equal to the number of protons in the nucleus of that element.

How many protons does an atomic number of four have?

Four.

How do you calculate the protons from the atomic number?

The atomic number is the number of protons.

How do you determine the number of protons electrons and neutrons present in an element by identifying its atomic and mass numbers from the periodic table?

Atomic number means number of protons present in an atom. Atomic number= number of protons. mass number = number of neutrons+ number of protons. So if you subtract the number of protons you get neutrons and if you subtract neutrons you get protons. mass number - protons= neutrons Mass number - neutrons = protons.

the answer is that it is called a atomic number.

What number represents the number of protons in an atom?

Protons are represented by the atomic number of an element. The number of protons is also the number of electrons. The number of protons is also represented in re Atomic Mass, which is the number of protons and the number of neutrons combined.
