Typically, professional positions are paid by salary as opposed to hourly. Many people in low paying jobs make an hourly wage, where they take orders from those making salary. For example, a manager is paid $26,000 per year; a new employee or independent contractor make $9-$10/hr., respectively. They are all being paid roughly same, since management often work longer hours than employees, who in turn have longer work years and better benefits than contractors. Yet, the salaried position would still be considered in a higher class, and treated accordingly. This is what is meant by salaried class. I don't think it is a strictly technical term. But anyone making salary would be considered part of this class.
