very, I am a dog trainer and own a shihtzu named Daisy. Daisy knows 17 tricks by voice command and 7 others by signal. The only thing with shihtzus is they are spoiled and therefore dont do stuff unless they want to. A trick I learned is to treat the training like a game.
The term "dumb" refers to an animal's inability to make an audible sound. For this reason, the Shih Tzu is not "dumb" as it is well capable of making a lot of noise.
In intelligence ranking, the Shih Tzu ranks well down on the list, at number 79. This means that it has the lowest edge of working intelligence; 80 to 100 repetitions of new commands are rresponses for the dog to learn; and they will only obey a first command 25% of the time, or less. See the related link below.
Shih Tzu dogs are high-strung and do not respond well to noises and commotion of any kind. The natural response for a Shih Tzu that feels excessive stress or any other tension from their environment is a biting response.
The Shih Tzu is a very proud and regal dog that descends from the dogs that used to find favor with Chinese royalty. They can be very arrogant and stubborn and this is probably the only Shih Tzu problem that can lead to more problems than anything else. They will do what they want to do and they take a long time to learn that you are in charge and not them. It takes patience to train a Shih Tzu.
This stubbornness and high-strung personality are detrimental to important tasks like housebreaking. A Shih Tzu normally can take months to housebreak and if anything happens to upset them during the process, or they just decide that they don't want to learn anymore, then you are usually back to square one. Your only weapon is positive reinforcement and a lot of praise because if they don't understand what you want then they will do whatever they want.
Honestly, all Shih Tzus have a different personality, but I think they are. No dog is considered "stupid" I would recommend this breed to anyone.
I have two shih tzus and they are not lazy ! but they can be very loving and quiet so people call them lazy. They also can be playful! and are lovely dogs to have.
Very. They are number 6 on the list of the most intelligent breeds of dogs, outranking the Labrador.
In shows, but not in training, shih tzus are hard to train.
they are very smart and very playful too.
They can be. This is a trait that is avoided by breeders but nonetheless some shelties are simply timid creatures.
Shelties come in: Sable Blue Merle Tri Color Bi-Blue Bi-Black Shaded Sable Double Merle - double merle is when two blue merle shelties mate and there baby comes out mostly white. Those shelties are bound to be either deaf or blind. It's sad. :(
They bite.
usually year round but mostly in spring
No, nobody should hate any dog.

You can get a sheltie from a breeder, shelter, or rescue organization. Never buy dogs from pet stores. Himark Shelties is a good place if you want a sheltie for AKC conformation, agility, or obedience.

Shelties are known to be very intelligent and trainable dogs.
