Historically, the timber rattlesnake has occurred in Maine. However, it is believed by many to now be extinct in that state. There is a possibility that isolated populations of this venomous snake may still occur in remote locations.By the way, there are no 'poisonous' snakes anywhere. Poison must be ingested (eaten) to cause problems. There are, however, venomous snakes. A venom must be injected to cause a problem.

There are probably no venomous snakes in Maine today. The timber rattlesnake has not been seen there in years but there is always a slight possibility that small populations may occur in isolated areas.
