Friendly is an overstatement. They are not normally aggressive. They usually will not bother you if you do not bother them. So, if you encounter one, back away slowly and quietly. However, there are rabid skunks. Rabid skunks are often aggressive and will come at humans with no fear. Be very careful. It is best to stay away.
Some people do have skunks for pets. However these are not skunks taken from the wild. They are specially raised by specially trained people.
