Atoms are electrically charged . It is now known that an atom has a positively charged nucleus that makes up more than 99.9% of the atom's mass but only about 1/100,000 of its volume. The nucleus is composed of positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons, each about 2,000 times as massive as an electron. Most of the atom's volume consists of a cloud of electrons that have very small mass and negative charge. The electron cloud is bound to the nucleus by the attraction of opposite charges. In a neutral atom, the protons in the nucleus are balanced by the electrons. An atom that has gained or lost electrons becomes negatively or positively charged and is called an ion.

Who held a magnet up to the crt and discovered that atoms contain negativley charged particles?

J J Thomson

Were is the charged particle flow in a permanent magnet?

I believe it is in the material. It says that everything has charged particles in it. It also says that in order for a material to be magnetic, then, its atoms have to line up in a certain way so that the electrons in the material all have the same general motion. So if it's a permanent magnet, then the charged particles would be in the material.

How electricity flows?

Electricity flows through wires. Negatively charged atoms will jump to positively charged atoms. They all jump really fast and it causes flow. Electricity flows only in A. An open circuit. B. A closed circuit. C. A magnet D. An incomplete circuit

Atoms in a magnet are?

"aligned"

How do you strengthen a magnet?

A magnet can be strengthened by aligning it with an oppositely charged magnet. They will attract to each other and the weakened magnet will be strengthened through the interaction.

Will a positively charged glass rod be attracted to a magnet?

no.

What is filled with eletrically charged ions?

A plasma may contain only electrically charged ions. A solution of an electrolyte in a solvent is also "filled with electrically charged ions" in the sense that such ions are present throughout the solution at the same density, but the solution also contains solvent and therefore is not filled with ions in the sense that nothing else is there.

How are atoms and ions connected?

Atoms are neutral particles. Ions are charged atoms.

What is true of an atoms's nucleus?

negatively charged and takes up most of the atoms space Takes up most of the atoms mass and is negatively charged
