Yes, French people are really happy to see strangers, they can try to speak English and help you since they don't do that between themselves.

Also they are happy to share their cars with you at the airport since cabs are on strike to protect their monopoly against non accredited taxis, and public transportation is also... well on strike but for some other reason, usually " to improve the quality of the service. ". Also you will see they still have manual gear in their cars because automatic don't sell here, this is considered hick's stuff. Their need to tamper with the shift to show they are just back from a Grand Prix.

Be aware that they now use euros, and they are not very accustomed to this new money, so be ready for some surprise when you are paying at shops, they are quick to ask 10 euros for a bread baguette as if natural to pay this price.

Maître d' has no meaning in French and is just half of a correct expression, just as ridiculous as saying 's eyes in English in place of my husband's eyes and expecting to be understood. Anyway there are no maîtres d'hotel anymore in restaurants and if you need to see the boss of the kitchen, this is the chef. Same if you want to see the head of any other team. If you want to see the head of the Plumbing staff, also ask for le chef, or the boss. Overall, French like to be named chef of something. But use this trick with parsimony. I told you, there are plenty of such expressions you find in fancy books that don't work in real french. Maisonnette is ok though difficult to insert in the conversation.

Also French people are trying to maintain the tale their are good in bed. Better than anyone else on Earth. That may be useful. Receiving a wink from someone speaking another language could be for them like shaking hand with President Obama. They can wet their pants in the process.

Welcome to the country I live in.

Was this a mischievous question? The Amish are famous for their static, unchanging culture that has little interaction with outsiders. They don't "contribute" much except an example of how a community can function. However, they have made some contributions to genetics and psychology. Because they are a closely related people who rarely intermarry with outsiders, there are certain genetic weaknesses that they never have, and other weaknesses that they have in high numbers.
