Yes of course. God has given us the model of the New Testament Church so that we know what to do today.

Okay, to find out how the early Church was configured, you should start with reading the Book of Acts in the Bible. Reading other parts of the New Testament after the resurrection will help.
In Acts, the disciples sold off a lot of their property and owned things in common. They lived as a tight-knit community and cared for one another.
Selling off one's property isn't always the best thing to do unless of course one's nation is losing a war and your land will be taken from you at any time. We do have to remember that Rome and Jerusalem fell in 70 AD.
But then again, if one person or family already has substantial land, and you decide to all live together, then you can sell off your own land and live with them to help consolidate and further the ministry.
But a lot of the rest of the picture of what happened, it would be good if it were that way today. This was when Christianity was simple and immediately before the rise of Catholicism. For an example of a community trying a similar approach, there is the book, In His Steps. It is about a church asking themselves the question, "What would Jesus do?" They all pledged to ask themselves this question and let it dictate their lives and behavior. Of course, not everyone stuck it out, but those who did led some rather courageous lives. One changed the face of the publishing industry and took flack for doing so.
